He was flying over the prison with a drone loaded with cell phones, ready to deliver them inside the facility. However, the plan was foiled when the Carabinieri intercepted the aircraft and located the man believed to be responsible for the attempt on the ground. It happened in San Gimignano, near the Ranza prison, where a forty-nine-year-old man from the Salerno area was reported to the Siena Public Prosecutor's Office.

The operation began late Monday evening, following reports of a drone flying low over the prison perimeter. Officers from the local station, along with the Operations and Mobile Unit, began searching the surrounding area, managing to locate a suspicious car parked not far from the facility. The man who was later reported was inside.

A search of the vehicle revealed what investigators described as a veritable kit for illicit supplies from above. They found a professional drone with remote control, a remote release system, and five telephones—four smartphones and a handset—ready for delivery. The trunk also contained two spools of fishing line, used to secure the cargo during flight and lower it with precision.

All the material was seized and made available to the judicial authorities. According to the Carabinieri's reconstruction, the phones were intended for inmates at the penitentiary, where the introduction of communication devices poses a serious risk to security and internal order. Investigations are continuing to clarify any possible complicity and determine who the "flying package" was intended for.
