Little Domenico died at 9:20 a.m. today. The family's lawyer, Francesco Petruzzi, announced the news. This morning at dawn, the parents and their lawyer were called to the child's bedside by the Monaldi hospital management.
Shortly afterward, Cardinal Mimmo Battaglia, Archbishop of Naples, also arrived, and is in the hospital praying at the mother's side and administering extreme unction to little Domenico.
Monaldi's condolences
"With deep sorrow," the Colli Hospital of Naples announces that "this morning, Saturday, February 21, 2026, the young patient who underwent a transplant on December 23, 2025, passed away following a sudden and irreversible worsening of his clinical condition." The Strategic Management, along with all healthcare and non-healthcare professionals, "expresses its deepest condolences and extends its deepest sympathy to the family in this time of immense grief."
This is the note from the hospital where the little boy had received a heart transplant on December 23rd, which was later revealed to have been "burned" during transport and which caused his death this morning.
