Fear gripped the Campi Flegrei area this late morning, February 28th. At 11:19 a.m., a magnitude 3.5 earthquake shook the area, forcing many people into the streets. The Vesuvius Observatory located the epicenter in the Solfatara area, in the municipality of Pozzuoli, at an estimated depth of approximately 3 kilometers.

The shock was also felt in Naples

The earthquake, due to its intensity and shallow depth, was not confined to the Pozzuoli area. The tremor was clearly felt in several areas of the city of Naples. The most numerous reports came from the western and hilly neighborhoods, particularly Soccavo, Pianura, and Vomero, where residents clearly felt the shaking.

The mayor of Pozzuoli: "Seismic swarm underway"

Pozzuoli's mayor, Gigi Manzoni, intervened immediately to reassure residents and provide updates on the situation. In a post on his Facebook page, he confirmed the nature of the event: "A few minutes ago, we all felt two tremors linked to the phenomenon of bradyseism. The Vesuvius Observatory notified us of the start of a seismic swarm, and we are monitoring its evolution minute by minute."

Rescue vehicles alerted

Manzoni also assured that the municipal team acted promptly: "The Municipality is already fully operational and has activated all the procedures required in these cases." To provide support to the public, the administration has released emergency contact information for reporting incidents. Residents can contact the Municipal Police Operations Center at 081/8551891 or the Civil Protection Department at 081/18894400.
