The robbery took place on the night of March 27, 2025, at the hospital pharmacy in Castelnuovo Garfagnana, in the province of Lucca. The criminals, believed to be experts in targeted thefts, stole high-value cancer drugs, the total value of which was estimated at approximately €350.000.

The investigation began immediately after the incident, with the Carabinieri of the Castelnuovo Garfagnana company's operational unit launching a thorough investigative effort, focusing on suspicious movements, digital traces, and video surveillance images.

Three arrests were made in Naples, Avellino, and Poggioreale prison.

The military were able to reconstruct the movements of the suspects in various areas of the country, thanks also to the analysis of the videos showing the cars used and the physical features of the perpetrators of the theft.

During the operation, three men between the ages of 49 and 60 were arrested, all with criminal records and residing in the Naples area. One of them, wanted for about a year for other crimes, was located in Ariano Irpino (Avellino); a second was arrested at his home in Naples. The third was served with the arrest warrant directly in Poggioreale prison in Naples, where he was already being held for other crimes.

The alleged receiver: an Egyptian in the province of Lodi

The investigation also led to the identification of the alleged receiver of the stolen drugs: a 51-year-old Egyptian citizen, resident in the province of Lodi, already known to law enforcement for similar crimes. A specific case has been opened against him for his suspected role in the receiving of cancer drugs.

The Carabinieri's coordinated investigation has thus closed the loop on the hospital pharmacy theft, identifying both those responsible for the robbery and the alleged drug disposal network.
