It was just after 8:00 PM when two young men with their faces covered burst into the Lidl store on Via Nazionale delle Puglie, in Giugliano in Campania (northern Naples).
One of the two pulled out a gun and shouted, "This is a robbery!" While his accomplice checked the entrance, the other headed for register number 3, demanding the cashier hand over the proceeds. The employee walked away, and the robber grabbed the contents of the drawer: €215.33, including loose change.
The providential intervention of the security guard
Among the customers in line was a security guard, still in uniform after finishing his shift, accompanied by his wife. Without hesitation, the man lunged at the robber, blocking him. The accomplice, seeing himself discovered, fled on foot, abandoning the car he had used to get to the scene, a Fiat 500L, in the parking lot with its engine still running.
The Carabinieri responded to the scene and arrested the young man: Carlo Marino, 20, a resident of Giugliano, already known to law enforcement. Investigations quickly revealed that the young man was under house arrest and that, by escaping, he had committed the crime.
The weapon in question was seized: it is a faithful toy reproduction of a semi-automatic Beretta 92FS, lacking the mandatory red cap to distinguish it from real weapons, which increased its intimidating potential. The car abandoned in the parking lot was found to have been stolen the previous evening in Giugliano in Campania.
Now in prison, investigations on the accomplice
Marino is currently being held in prison awaiting trial. He will face charges of aggravated robbery and escape. Investigations are continuing to identify and locate his escaped accomplice. The incident, which occurred during closing hours with several families still present, caused moments of panic among supermarket customers and employees.

I found the article interesting, but there's a lot I don't quite understand. Why did two young people commit a robbery with a toy gun? It's truly worrying that these things happen in a crowded supermarket. Safety is important.
