Naples – The sixth edition of the National Award named after Federico Del Prete, the businessman and trade unionist killed by the Camorra on February 18, 2002, because he firmly opposed protection rackets, is centered around his name.
On Thursday, the award was presented to Dr. Biagio Chiariello, commander of the Caserta Provincial Police, for his commitment to fighting organized crime and upholding the law in his area.
The ceremony took place at the Shipping Center on Via Depretis, one of Naples' main economic and maritime hubs, in an initiative that combined memory, education, and civic responsibility.
The event was conceived and organized by Gennaro Del Prete, the victim's son and president of the "Memoriae" association, founded to preserve Federico's memory and promote a culture of legality.
The day was also enlivened by the presence of a group of students from the San Cipriano d'Aversa school (Caserta province), heralding a new generation called to stand firm in the face of racketeering and the silence of silence. Official greetings were delivered by Councilor De Iesu on behalf of Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, the Prefect of Naples, and Commendatore Franco Musto.
In addition to Dr. Chiariello, honorees included magistrates Carlo Palermo, Maurizio Giordano, and Giovanni Conzo; Dr. Raffaele Di Nardo, president of the Parete inter-forces club; and the associations "Friends of Legality," Me Too ODV, and "Le Sentinelle." Special recognitions were given to sociologist Stefania Fiengo and social worker Generoso Petrillo.
During the award ceremony, Commander Biagio Chiariello expressed deep emotion at the recognition:
"It's an honor for me to receive this award," he said. "I thank the organizer Gennaro Del Prete and Dr. Rossella Di Lauri. Federico is an example, because I chose to stand firm, without accepting compromise. The path to legality must know no deviations: it is unique, arduous, and tortuous, and Federico teaches us this. Rebel against extortion, against arrogance, against abuse. Join the fight, as he did, which for me represents a high sense of honesty, altruism, and generosity. I hope that the current bureaucracy will be eliminated in the timeframes for obtaining legal benefits for innocent victims of organized crime, which too often is marked by delays that can last years even after reforms are implemented."
