Naples – Doors and windows must be closed, no prolonged outdoor sitting, and maximum attention must be paid to washing fruit and vegetables. These are the provisions of the ordinance signed by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi following the fire that devastated the Sannazaro Theater, releasing a thick column of smoke visible from several neighborhoods across the city.
Urgent measures for residents
The mayor's order establishes "urgent measures to protect the health and safety of people" in the area affected by the fire. The ordinance also recommends avoiding standing on balconies and terraces to observe the smoke, even from a distance: strong winds could carry respiratory irritants. Hanging clothes outdoors is also prohibited.
Anyone experiencing difficulty breathing or a burning sensation in the airways is advised to contact a doctor immediately or go to the nearest emergency room. To provide direct assistance to residents, the Municipality has set up a Civil Protection station near the theater.
Arpac control unit for monitoring pollution
A monitoring station operated by the Regional Environmental Protection Agency (ARPAC) has been installed at the site of the disaster to analyze airborne pollutant levels in real time to assess any potential risks to public health.
The Region sends support and volunteers
"The Campania Region promptly intervened to support the City of Naples and the citizens during this delicate phase," said the regional councilor for Civil Protection, Fiorella Zabatta, who attended the meeting of the Rescue Coordination Center at the Prefecture after an on-site inspection.
The Region has already arranged for a gazebo to support municipal social services, regional civil protection volunteers, SMA Campania workers, and water supplies to support rescue operations.
"We will continue to ensure our operational presence in close collaboration with the Municipality and all components of the regional civil protection system," Zabatta assured. "The Sannazaro Theater represents the memory, heart, and soul of Naples," the councilor concluded.

The ordinance signed by the mayor seems fair to me, but I don't know if the measures are effective enough to protect people's health. The situation is serious, and I hope everything is resolved as soon as possible.
