Two students from Campania—one adult and one minor—have been targeted by the Naples Prosecutor's Office and the Juvenile Court on charges of self-training. The investigative hypothesis is chilling: the boys allegedly established digital contact with ISIS cells through web channels.
Naples - About a month ago, DIGOS agents raided the homes of two young men, both Italian and resident in the Naples province. The searches resulted in the seizure of educational and propaganda materials downloaded from the internet. What's more, suspicious electrical circuits were found in the home of one of the men, which are now being examined by investigators.
Computers and cell phones under scrutiny by investigators
Investigators have seized computers and cell phones to perform forensic copying. The goal is to scrutinize every corner of the boys' digital lives: social media profiles, photographs, and chat conversations. Every digital trace is now being scrutinized to reconstruct the extent of their contacts with the terrorist organization.
Simple curiosity or adherence to jihad?
The investigation, still in its preliminary stages, aims to unravel a crucial issue: was it a simple oversight while surfing the web, or did the two students intend to actively embrace jihadist ideology? The investigation was launched by the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, which coordinated the investigation with the DIGOS (Special Operations Division).
The families of the boys, who live in the province of Naples, are in shock. The investigation's developments could shed light on an increasingly worrying phenomenon: the online radicalization of young Italians through the digital channels of Islamic terrorism.
