Vietri sul Mare – One day ahead of schedule, the Amalfi Coast state road 163 will reopen at 7:00 PM today, Tuesday, February 10. The announcement comes from the mayors of Vietri sul Mare and Cetara, Giovanni De Simone and Fortunato Della Monica, following safety measures following last Friday's landslide in the Fuenti area.
Work completed despite the rain
"Despite adverse weather conditions, characterized by incessant rain throughout the weekend, which contributed to the collapse of the embankment on the night between Thursday and Friday, the necessary safety conditions were created in record time," the two mayors explained.
Traffic will resume in alternating directions, regulated by traffic lights, allowing the Amalfi Coast to be reconnected to Vietri and Salerno via the SS163.
Constant coordination between institutions
The municipal administrations of Vietri sul Mare and Cetara, along with their respective technical offices, have been constantly monitoring the delicate emergency intervention phases, which was authorized on Friday morning, following an inspection by the Head of the Campania Region's Civil Protection Department.
The mayors thanked Campania Regional President Roberto Fico, Councilor Fiorella Zabatta, Regional Civil Protection Chief Italo Giulivo, and Salerno Civil Engineering Director Nunzio Esposito for immediately agreeing on the need for urgent intervention.
Extraordinary measures for commuters and students
During the closure, Travelmar established two special routes to and from Salerno to alleviate the inconvenience to students and commuters. The mayors also extend their thanks to ANAS, the technicians and workers of the Cardine company, the Salerno Port Authority for authorizing the additional sea routes, and the municipal bodies that have monitored the situation since the embankment collapse.
Today's reopening will put an end to the numerous inconveniences caused to residents and commuters by the closure of one of the Amalfi Coast's most important arteries.

It's good that the roads are reopening early, but I wonder how the work was done so quickly. The rains have caused so many problems; let's hope there aren't any more landslides. Safety is important.
