Naples – The Campania Region's Civil Protection Department has decided to extend the yellow-level weather alert across the region until 23:59 PM today, Friday, February 20.
The warning, initially due to expire at 16:00 PM, has been extended in light of evolving weather conditions and assessments by the Regional Functional Center.
Thunderstorms and persistent rain in the afternoon and evening
The alert primarily concerns hydrogeological risks associated with scattered rainfall, including showers and thunderstorms, which will continue to affect Campania throughout the afternoon and evening. Although strong winds have eased since 16:00 PM, the soil—already saturated by the previous days' rainfall—remains highly vulnerable.
Landslides, falling rocks, and flooding: warnings issued even without further rain.
The yellow hydrogeological criticality persists due to the possibility of landslides, rockfall, surface water runoff along roads, and localized flooding. These phenomena can occur even in the absence of further heavy rainfall, precisely because of the saturated soil.
The Civil Protection Department urges mayors to exercise maximum caution and to maintain the Municipal Operations Centers (COC) active. Local authorities are required to implement all prevention and risk mitigation measures, constantly monitoring communications from the Regional Operations Center.
Several municipalities have already adopted restrictive ordinances: in Benevento, for example, schools of all levels have remained closed, along with public parks, the municipal park, and cemeteries. Similar measures have been taken in other local areas to limit travel and protect the population. The weather situation is expected to gradually improve over the weekend, with the arrival of more stable conditions. Until this evening, however, caution remains essential, especially in hilly, mountainous, and coastal areas exposed to residual storm surges.

I agree, caution and attention are required from everyone. Weather phenomena can be unpredictable, and saturated soil increases the risk of landslides and flooding.
Yes, we must be extremely careful during this time. We hope there is no significant damage and that everyone can stay safe during these adverse conditions.
The weather situation is worrying, but we hope the authorities are able to manage the risk. It's important to follow the Civil Protection Department's instructions to avoid problems. Landslides are a serious problem.
