Heavy rain, strong winds, and fragile terrain: severe weather has once again brought several areas of Campania to their knees, where a yellow-level weather warning for thunderstorms and intense gusts is in effect until 8:00 PM. The impact is particularly severe on traffic, with landslides and mudslides causing delays and closures.

In Salerno, on Via Fra' Generoso, a strategic artery connecting the port to the highway junctions, a landslide unleashed mud, rocks, and debris onto the roadway. The affected ridge had been hit by a fire two years ago, which may have compromised its stability. Traffic was disrupted for hours, while municipal police and firefighters intervened to secure the area and restore traffic flow.

Disruptions are also occurring in the rest of the Salerno area. In Giungano, along provincial road 137, rains caused a rock face bordering the road to collapse. In the Naples area, in Monte di Procida, a landslide affected Via Petrara, a road connecting the hamlet of Cappella to the city center. The municipality has ordered the closure of the road to vehicular and pedestrian traffic, allowing only residents to pass, pending technical assessments of the hydrogeological risk.

Preventive measures also extend to other areas. In Procida, schools and the cemetery were closed for the entire day, while in Naples, public parks, the Bagnoli North Pier, outdoor sports facilities, cemeteries, and public beaches remain closed until the alert ends. Similar measures are also in place in Caserta, where the Municipality has ordered the cemetery and city parks to be closed as a precaution.

Maritime services in the Gulf of Naples are also likely to be affected, with some trips already canceled due to sea conditions. In Irpinia, the day began with heavy fog at the Montevergine Meteorological Observatory, where over 16 millimeters of rain have been recorded in the last 24 hours. Another Atlantic low-pressure system is expected to pass through in the coming hours, which could keep the already challenging region under high alert.

The bad weather is already causing damage in Campania, but I don't understand why nothing is being done to prevent these situations. Landslides and landslides are a serious problem, and traffic is severely affected. School closures are also a serious issue.
