Cuneo: A new sentence has been added to the life sentence already being served for Umberto Onda, considered a leading figure in the Torre Annunziata Camorra. The Cuneo Court has sentenced him to eleven months in prison for resisting and insulting a public official, in connection with an incident that occurred in 2022 during his detention in the Cerialdo prison.
Threats in Section 41-bis
Testifying in court was an assistant chief of the penitentiary police, who was involved in the argument with the inmate in the 41-bis section.
According to the officer, it all began with a disciplinary warning after Onda was caught talking to other inmates. The situation quickly escalated.
"He said he knew I was from Avellino, citing my neighborhood. He added that he would come pick me up at home, even when I retired," the witness stated. On another occasion, he allegedly added, "It's when you're retired that you have to worry the most."
The transfer and the precedents
Onda had been transferred to Cuneo in 2022 after a period of detention in Turin's Vallette prison, where he had already been responsible for an attack on an officer.
His stay in the Cuneo penitentiary was brief. He was subsequently transferred to the prison in Sassari, where he is currently being held.
The sentence handed down in Cuneo therefore represents a further judicial step in the criminal case of the Torre del Greco boss, already burdened by a life sentence.
