Naples – The medical consultation at Monaldi Hospital for the child admitted to the pediatric cardiac surgery unit ended with a dramatic verdict. The young patient's clinical condition is not compatible with a second heart transplant.
This is the conclusion reached by specialists from leading Italian healthcare facilities specializing in pediatric heart transplants, who met on Wednesday, February 18, at the Colli Hospital.
The multidisciplinary consultation
A panel of national experts met in a collegial consultation to evaluate all possible treatment options. The medical team conducted a thorough bedside assessment, examining the most recent instrumental tests and verifying key clinical parameters to determine suitability for a new transplant.
The shared evaluation, "as complete and comprehensive as possible" as emphasized by the Hospital Trust, led to a unanimous conclusion: the child's clinical picture excludes the possibility of proceeding with a second heart transplant.
Official communications
The Strategic Management of the Colli Hospital promptly informed the National Transplant Center of the outcome of the medical consultation. At the same time, the young patient's family was promptly updated on the clinical situation and the decisions made by the team of specialists.
In announcing the conclusion of the consultation, the Hospital Trust expressed "its most sincere closeness to the family in this very difficult moment", recognizing the human drama that the affair represents for the parents and relatives of the child.
