Mondragone – A large plot of land measuring approximately 4.000 square meters on the Domitian coast, in the former IDAC area—already declared abandoned and at risk of decay—has been seized by the Caserta Provincial Police.
At the heart of the operation: receiving stolen cars, illegal dismantling of vehicles, illegal management of hazardous waste, and animal abuse.
The blitz was triggered by a suspicious van
It all started with the sighting of a van loaded with used car parts entering a gate in the area.
Provincial police officers, coordinated by Colonel Biagio Chiariello, intervened with the support of Italian Army soldiers from the XIX "Cavalleggeri Guide" Regiment (led by Colonel Spiezia). Inside the four warehouses on the site, the officers found two men busy repairing vehicles, with dismantled car parts scattered everywhere, which investigators believe to have been stolen.
Illegal mechanical workshop and body shop
An illegal mechanic's shop and body shop operated on site, run by a man with a criminal record, including illegal possession of weapons. No permits were required: the business lacked permits for operating the business, for discharging wastewater into the sewer system, and for releasing emissions into the atmosphere.
The shocking discovery: 13 hunting dogs in chains
Among the waste and debris, a situation of animal abuse emerged: 13 hunting dogs were kept chained, without adequate shelter and visibly frightened. Some were without microchips.
The animals were immediately rescued and brought to safety, while the keeper was fined over €7.000.
Illegal occupation and links to confiscated assets
The area had been illegally occupied for over 15 years and is included in the list of assets seized and confiscated from the Camorra managed by the National Agency for the Administration and Disposal of Assets Seized and Confiscated from Organized Crime. It will now have to be cleared.
The accusations and the continuation of the investigations
The man was reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere for: abandonment and illegal management of waste (violation of the Consolidated Environmental Act);
receiving a prescription;
illegal occupation of property;
animal abuse.
The entire area has been placed under preventive seizure. The Caserta Provincial Police emphasize that the operation is part of the ongoing efforts to combat environmental crimes in the province, particularly in the so-called "Land of Fires," where abuses and illegal landfills continue to be a scourge.
