The pickpocket, a 35-year-old Algerian already known to law enforcement, wasted no time. Yesterday, in the area outside Naples Central Station, he took advantage of a seated traveler's moment of distraction and made off with his purse.

The watchful eye of the plainclothes officer

Observing the scene with typical alertness was a Livorno police officer, temporarily off duty and in town for personal reasons. As the thief fled, the officer didn't hesitate for a second.

The blitz in collaboration with the Polfer
The officer immediately alerted and then collaborated with officers from the Campania Railway Police Department, who were engaged in the "Safe Stations" operation. Together, they caught up with the fugitive, managing to apprehend him after a brief but tense chase.

The 35-year-old was arrested for the crimes of theft by sleight of hand and resisting arrest. The stolen goods, stolen just minutes earlier, were promptly recovered and returned to their rightful owner, who thus avoided further serious consequences from the theft.

It's strange how certain situations can happen right in front of so many people and no one notices, but it's good that there are officers ready to intervene when needed, even if things seem normal.
