Naples, a raid on the Chiaia nightlife district: ghost B&Bs and energy thefts. Two locations left dark.

A joint operation by the Carabinieri, Municipal Police, and Enel between Baretti and Via dei Mille. Three managers of accommodations for unregistered guests were reported. Naples – Not just drug dealing and weapons among young people, but also administrative irregularities, tax evasion, and electricity theft. The Carabinieri of the Naples Central Company conducted a comprehensive anti-nightlife operation, which, with the support of the Municipal Police and Enel technicians, thoroughly combed the Chiaia neighborhood.

The beating heart of Neapolitan nightlife has come under the scrutiny of investigators: from the “Baretti” area to the high-class salons of Via dei Mille.

Unknown guests in B&Bs

The operation's first front focused on combating uncontrolled tourism and public safety related to accommodations. The military intensified checks on local B&Bs, uncovering serious irregularities in three different businesses.

Six guests were identified within the facilities—two for each B&B—whose presence had never been reported to the Public Safety authorities. This conduct not only represents a loss to the Treasury by fueling the illegal rental market, but above all, it poses a risk to public safety by circumventing the obligation to track people in the city. The three owners have been reported.

Blackout in chic clubs: evenings interrupted

The raid continued in nightclubs, where the intervention of Enel technicians was crucial. The checks uncovered a widespread electricity theft system, right in the heart of Naples' upper-class neighborhoods.

At a popular nightclub on Via dei Mille, meter tampering was discovered. The situation was even more serious at a cocktail bar on Via Gradini Amedeo: here, in addition to meter tampering, an illegal connection to the public grid was discovered.

The result was immediate: the power went out and the evening ended prematurely. To the shock and disappointment of hundreds of customers crowded into the two establishments, law enforcement officers shut down the business and reported the two responsible business owners. The owner of a third establishment on Corso Vittorio Emanuele suffered the same fate, also caught with a tampered meter.

Energy theft and illegal construction

The inspection of electricity consumption expanded beyond the nightlife district. During the checks, the Carabinieri reported four more people for energy theft. Among them were the owners of a chauffeur-driven bus rental business on Via Croce Rossa: they had tampered with the meters at both their private homes and those at their business.

The night's events concluded with roadside checks: five illegal parking attendants operating in the Baretti area were reported, along with a twenty-year-old man found in possession of a switchblade with a 16-centimeter blade. Finally, four young men were reported to the Prefecture, found with small amounts of hashish in their pockets.
