Naples – The State Police's anti-theft and pickpocketing services at the city's subway stations and trains continue unabated. This activity is part of the public transportation safety plan, with patrols deployed daily along Line 1.
The check at the University stop
On Friday afternoon, officers from the Office of General Prevention and Public Rescue, on metro duty at the "Università" stop in the direction of Piscinola, noticed a man acting suspiciously and attempting to run away at their sight.
Stopped for a check, the individual—a 56-year-old Senegalese man with a criminal record and an illegal immigration status—was found in possession of a wallet with documents registered to another person, without being able to explain their origin.
Report for receiving stolen goods
Following the investigation, the man was charged with receiving stolen goods. The officers' investigative acumen was immediately confirmed by the discovery of the stolen goods, which had been stolen shortly before from a subway passenger.
Wallet returned to owner
Shortly after the arrest, officers were able to locate the wallet's rightful owner, who was at the police station to report its theft. The man was able to get his belongings back and expressed his gratitude to the officers for their swift response.

It was an interesting event, but I think there are too many people stealing on public transportation. Police officers should do more to prevent theft and pickpocketing. I hope security improves.
