Naples – Yesterday afternoon, a man filed a complaint at the Viacaria-Mercato Police Station for the theft of his cell phone. According to his testimony, the perpetrator had demanded €400 for the return of his stolen goods: a classic extortion scheme known as a "return horse."

The Deception and the Appointment

While filing the report, the victim managed to contact the alleged perpetrator by phone, arranging a meeting to hand over the money. Under police supervision, she maintained a neutral attitude so as not to arouse the criminal's suspicions.

The officers set up a stakeout at the meeting point. A few minutes after the suspect arrived, he received the agreed-upon sum and returned his cell phone, but was immediately apprehended by police officers.

The man is a 31-year-old Guinean, already known to law enforcement and illegally residing in the country. He was arrested for extortion and taken to the police station for routine checks.
