Naples – The Sansevero Chapel Museum, a Baroque treasure trove in the ancient heart of the city, is preparing for an extraordinary opening. On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm (last admission at 6:30 pm), the tactile tour "Wonder at Your Fingertips" will take place, an exclusive and free experience reserved for the blind and visually impaired.
The initiative—promoted by the Museum in close collaboration with the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired (ETS APS, Naples Territorial Section)—was born with a clear goal: to break down barriers and make the great artistic heritage accessible even to those who cannot see it. Touching the marble veil: the Veiled Christ without fences.
The centerpiece of the tour will be Giuseppe Sanmartino's Veiled Christ, one of the world's greatest sculptures. For the occasion, the protective fencing around the statue will be removed: participants, wearing latex gloves, will be able to touch the incredible marble textures of the veil enveloping Christ's body with their fingers, experiencing the extraordinary illusionistic lightness of the sculpted fabric.
The tour will continue with a tactile exploration of the two famous marble bas-reliefs at the foot of the allegorical statues of Modesty and Disillusionment, authentic technical virtuosities of 18th-century Neapolitan art. Blind guides and specialized training: The entire experience will be led by blind guides trained by the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired, with the support of Roberta Meomartini, a tour guide specialized in tactile tours.
Before the actual exploration, the Museum's educational staff will offer an introductory description of the Chapel, with particular attention to the figure of Prince Raimondo di Sangro, the eccentric and brilliant patron who conceived the monumental complex.
Reservations required and rules for the protection of the works. Admission is free but places are limited: reservations are essential by calling 081.5498834 (Monday and Friday 9:00 am - 1:00 pm; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm) or by sending an email to uicna@uici.it.
Reservations will be accepted subject to availability. Each blind or visually impaired visitor may be accompanied by a companion and/or a guide dog. To protect the delicate marble surfaces, rings, bracelets, watches, or other objects that could scratch the sculptures are prohibited during the tactile experience. A gift in Braille concludes the experience.
At the end of the tour, in the Sacristy, guests will receive a special Braille guide to the Sansevero Chapel, created by the Museum in collaboration with the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired. This event goes beyond a simple visit: a concrete gesture of accessibility and respect for a universal masterpiece.

The Sansevero Chapel Museum's initiative is very interesting, but I don't know if it will truly be accessible to everyone. Communication about the event could have been clearer for the blind and their families. I hope there are trained guides.
