Naples – Starting today, magistrates, prosecutors, and administrative staff can move quickly between the New Palace of Justice and the Public Prosecutor's Office thanks to a new elevated pedestrian bridge.

The metal structure, entirely made of iron, was installed on the morning of February 3, 2026, creating a direct and protected connection between the two judicial complexes located in the Centro Direzionale area.

The work involved the complete closure of Via Grimaldi to vehicular traffic, a road already affected by construction and restrictions in recent months. The road will remain inaccessible to vehicles at least until the end of March, when the finishing touches and final inspections of the work will be completed.

The "bridge" project dates back to the time when the Naples Prosecutor's Office was led by Giovanni Melillo, now the national anti-mafia and anti-terrorism prosecutor. The idea was precisely to streamline daily travel between the courthouse and the prosecutor's office, reducing downtime and improving the efficiency of judicial work in one of Italy's most overburdened prosecutor's offices.

The walkway—over 40 meters long and equipped with air conditioning, LED lighting, and a photovoltaic panel roof—represents one of the final pieces of the infrastructure redevelopment of the Neapolitan judicial area, also funded with resources from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and coordinated by the State Property Agency. For motorists and residents in the area, the next two months will inevitably mean traffic disruptions: authorities recommend using alternative routes and paying attention to temporary signage.

It's important that the new bridge was built, but it causes too much inconvenience to residents and motorists. The closed road creates problems, and I don't know if it's worth the effort for such a project. I hope they finish the work as soon as possible.
