Naples – In the Forcella neighborhood, in the heart of Naples' historic center, the area in front of the Ruota degli Esposti, a historic symbol of the Basilica of the Santissima Annunziata, has finally been cleared of piles of garbage. The city administration announced the news, detailing the extraordinary cleanup project.
The permanent table for urban decorum
The operation was launched following the activation of the Permanent Roundtable for Urban Decorum, an operational structure established by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi and initiated at his direct instigation. The objective: to restore the decorum and usability of public spaces through targeted and coordinated actions.
Remediation of a risk area
This morning, staff from Asia and Napoli Servizi responded to the area enclosed by a metal fence and gate, where all kinds of waste, some of it potentially hazardous, had been dumped. The workers removed the materials and thoroughly cleaned the site, restoring it to the proper condition the site deserves.
New interventions in the next few days
The activities of the urban decorum task force, coordinated by Ciro Turiello, will not stop at the Ruota degli Esposti. Further interventions are planned in other areas of the city in the coming days, with the aim of improving the livability of public spaces and combating indiscriminate waste dumping.

I'm glad they cleaned up the area, but the feeling is mixed: in the neighborhood, it seems like nothing has really changed. The workers work hard, but then the waste comes right back. Let's hope the task continues, and those in government monitor it better, and citizens participate.
