Naples – Investigators are racing against time and uncertainty to reconstruct the final moments of Jlenia Musella, the 22-year-old killed in Naples by her brother Giuseppe.
Tomorrow, Friday, February 6th, will mark a crucial turning point in the investigation: both the hearing to validate the arrest and the assignment of the autopsy are scheduled. The Prosecutor's Office has only one goal: to determine whether the 28-year-old has told the whole truth.
The mystery of the dynamics: was it a thrown knife or a close-range slash?
The investigation focuses on the exact sequence of events surrounding the crime, which remains unclear in relation to the suspect's confession. Giuseppe Musella stated that he threw the kitchen knife from a distance of approximately eight meters, accidentally striking his sister in the back.
Investigators intend to verify this version with the utmost scientific rigor. The autopsy will be crucial to establish whether the depth and angle of the wound are consistent with a throw from that distance or whether, as suspected, the man was holding the weapon when he struck Jlenia. The trajectory of the blade will reveal whether it was an impulsive gesture from a distance or a close-range attack.
The fight over the dog and the checks on the animal
The motive, stemming from a context of upheaval in everyday life, is also under scrutiny. According to the brother, the argument erupted over the family dog, to whom Giuseppe is very close. The animal had been defecating on the couch, sparking Jlenia's anger, and she allegedly kicked the animal.
This seemingly marginal but crucial detail will also be investigated. Investigators will determine whether the dog exhibited signs of beatings consistent with the kicking Giuseppe described in his confessional statements at the police station. This detail will help to weigh the overall credibility of the suspect's account.
The judicial process: from the "Weak Factions" to the defense
Meanwhile, the justice system is moving forward quickly. The case, initially opened by prosecutor Ciro Capasso, who issued the arrest warrant for aggravated voluntary manslaughter, has been transferred to the Fourth Section of the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office ("Vulnerable Groups"), coordinated by Deputy Prosecutor Raffaello Falcone.
The validation hearing will be held tomorrow before the investigating judge. Immediately afterwards, the medical examiner will be assigned to perform the autopsy. A consultant appointed by Giuseppe Musella's lawyer, Andrea Fabbozzo, will also be present at all expert examinations to ensure full adversarial proceedings during this extremely delicate phase of the investigation.
