Naples – A serious traffic accident rocked the eastern neighborhood of Naples last night, putting the life of a sanitation worker from Asia, the municipal waste management company, at risk.

The devastating impact on Via Ponte dei Francesi

While carrying out his night shift of waste collection, the worker was hit and crushed by a car travelling at very high speed along Via Ponte dei Francesi, in the San Giovanni a Teduccio - Via Marina area.

The impact was extremely violent: according to initial reports, the vehicle lost control, ultimately hitting the worker on the shoulder. Immediately assisted by emergency services, the worker was rushed to Ospedale del Mare, where he is in serious condition. His prognosis remains guarded.

Co-worker in shock

A second operator, belonging to the same crew, witnessed the scene helplessly and was taken to the hospital in a state of shock, although he did not suffer any direct physical injuries. Numerous colleagues and emergency vehicles also responded to the scene, where witnesses described the scene as "terrifying."

Many workers and drivers bitterly comment on how working on the streets—especially at night—has become a game of Russian roulette: cars speeding by, scooters racing at breakneck speed, and drivers under the influence of drugs.

"You always stay alert, you move out of the way, but it's not always enough," is the refrain circulating among workers. Clandestine tender?

The police are investigating

According to some testimonies collected in the first hours after the accident, the car responsible for the collision was involved in an unauthorized speed race along the road. This hypothesis has not yet been officially confirmed, but the Local Police and law enforcement agencies are carefully verifying it by analyzing surveillance cameras, witness statements, and any on-site investigations.

The incident once again highlights the safety of sanitation workers, who are exposed to enormous risks every day on roads often lacking adequate protection and signage, especially at night. The story is expected to continue to dominate the news in the coming hours, while updates on the injured person's health and the outcome of the investigation are awaited.
