Naples. Downtown Naples was the scene of a swift law enforcement raid. Local police officers, specifically those from the Environmental Investigation and Social Emergencies Operations unit, conducting a patrol at the crossroads of Piazza Garibaldi, witnessed a robbery involving a Canadian tourist. The assailant snatched her cell phone and attempted to flee.

Lightning chase, the surrender at Porta Nolana

The patrols responded immediately. They launched a foot chase, tracking the robber for several hundred meters through the crowds and traffic at the station.

The man was caught and arrested near Porta Nolana, with no further escape possible. The operation prompted a temporary stampede in the area, which quickly subsided after the intervention.

An arrested man with a past as a "professional" criminal

Identified by law enforcement as a Moroccan citizen, the man is no stranger to justice. Routine investigations have revealed a very serious criminal record.

He already has prior convictions for similar crimes (robbery and burglary), as well as assault on a public official, and drug possession and dealing. A habitual criminal, therefore, who has struck again in the heart of the city.

Once the arrest was confirmed, the proceedings proceeded swiftly. The magistrate on duty at the Public Prosecutor's Office, having assessed the individual's danger to society and the seriousness of his previous convictions, ordered his pre-trial transfer to the Poggioreale prison.

The man will remain in jail pending a preliminary hearing before a judge, who will decide whether or not to confirm his arrest. The tourist victim of the robbery, although frightened, reportedly suffered no physical injuries.

It's incredible how often these incidents happen in Naples, and the police are always on the scene. But I wonder if more could be done to prevent certain events that ruin the city's image. It's important for tourists to feel safe.
