Naples – It wasn't a parcel, but the beginning of a nightmare that lasted hours. Yesterday, the net was closed around the gang that, in March 2025, turned the home of an elderly professional in the Fuorigrotta neighborhood into the scene of a violent robbery and kidnapping.
The Carabinieri of the Naples Bagnoli Operational Unit have served a precautionary detention order on two men, believed to be the last missing pieces of the criminal commando.
The "postmen" trap and the kidnapping
The operation, meticulously reconstructed by investigators, was triggered by a classic and ruthless deception. Two criminals, disguised in postal uniforms, had managed to get the 86-year-old to open the door under the pretext of a delivery. Once inside, the commando revealed itself: the two fake postmen gave the green light to two other accomplices.
The victim was immediately immobilized and tightly bound with plastic zip ties, left helpless while the robbers emptied the safe. The loot, approximately €25.000 in cash, had been taken before the gang fled, leaving the elderly man prisoner in his home.
The investigations: wiretaps and video surveillance
The order issued by the preliminary investigations judge of the Court of Naples, at the request of the local prosecutor's office, is the result of a complex technical investigation that lasted nearly a year. The officers not only collected testimonies, but also combined various investigative streams:
Interceptions: Telephone and environmental conversations that betrayed the suspects.
Video analyticsSurveillance cameras in the area tracked the group's movements before and after the attack.
Field feedbackHouse searches confirmed the accusatory framework already outlined during the summer.
Exemplary sentences for the accomplices
As the new suspects are being held in custody, justice has already handed down their verdict to the first members of the gang arrested last September. Just yesterday, coinciding with the new arrests, the first-instance verdict was handed down following the summary trial.
The sentences imposed are extremely harsh: the two accomplices already in custody were sentenced to seven years and over eleven years in prison, respectively, in addition to heavy fines. This strong signal underscores the seriousness of the charges: conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and kidnapping.

I read the news and it seems strange to me. There were cases like this: the fake postmen entered the house and tied up the elderly man, then he left. The investigation, with wiretaps and videos, has yielded confirmation, but everything seems a bit slow and confusing. Perhaps more checks and more clarity from the court were needed.
