The Carabinieri of the NAS (National Anti-Corruption Unit) in Naples, acting on behalf of the Public Prosecutor's Office, seized the container used to transport the transplanted heart of the two-year-and-four-month-old boy, currently in a medically induced coma in the intensive care unit of Monaldi Hospital. The organ, according to reports, was damaged.
The seized box is described as a true organ preservation and transport system, designed to maintain controlled temperatures. Investigators now plan to conduct a technical assessment of the device; the Prosecutor's Office will appoint ad hoc consultants for the investigation.
Six health workers are registered under investigation
The Naples Public Prosecutor's Office's VI Section ("Work and Professional Misconduct"), headed by Deputy Prosecutor Giuseppe Tittaferrante and Deputy Prosecutor Antonio Ricci, in the office coordinated by Prosecutor Nicola Gratteri, has placed six health workers under investigation.
They are members of the Monaldi team who oversaw the heart removal in Bolzano and the team from the same hospital who performed the transplant in Naples. They are charged with negligent injury.
Documents and records acquired: investigations underway
Along with the container, the Naples NAS (coordinated by Lieutenant Colonel Alessandro Cisternino) acquired all the documentation relating to the incident. The documents are now being examined by investigators, who are reconstructing in detail the phases of organ management and transfer.

The article is interesting, but there are many things that aren't clear, such as why the organ is damaged. I hope the investigation will clarify the situation for the child and his family.
