Naples – A secret, dangerous, and incredibly profitable business, operated in the shadow of a run-of-the-mill multi-story garage in the Soccavo neighborhood.
It was here that officers from the Naples Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza uncovered an international drug trafficking ring, seizing thousands of beauty products ready to flood the Campania black market.
The operation led to the reporting of an Italian citizen, believed to be the manager of the warehouse, and the seizure of over 191.000 doses of botulinum toxin and 73.000 ml of anesthetic creams.
The warehouse of horrors in the garage
What appeared to be a private garage had been transformed into a full-fledged logistics hub for the prohibited drug. No health permits were required, no safety regulations were observed. When the finance police raided the premises, they found household refrigerators packed to the brim with packages.
Inside were thousands of vials of type "A" botulinum toxin and anesthetics with no medical information in Italian. Many packages had labels in Greek, while others were completely anonymous, lacking the legally required leaflets that indicate dosage and contraindications.
The smuggling route and the black market
The investigations reconstructed the supply chain: the drugs arrived from non-EU countries via private couriers, cleverly bypassing official customs and health controls. To evade inspections, the shipments were formally addressed to non-existent parties, making it difficult to trace their final destination.
Rolls of adhesive tape with counterfeit security seals and computer equipment used to manage online sales were also found in the warehouse. According to estimates by the Guardia di Finanza, the seized goods would have fetched over €500.000 once placed on the parallel market, diverting revenues from the Treasury and fueling the illegal economy.
Very serious health risks
The alarm raised by investigators concerns the final destination of these products. These are drugs intended exclusively for hospital or medical use, which were instead about to end up in the network of illegal or complacent beauty salons. The risk for citizens is extremely high: undergoing treatments with non-compliant substances, stored in precarious conditions, and administered without medical supervision, exposes them to serious health risks.
The accusations
The person responsible for the illegal activity has been reported to the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office. He faces a long list of charges: receiving stolen goods, unauthorized practice of medicine, trafficking in toxic substances hazardous to public health, and the illegal importation and wholesale distribution of unauthorized medicines.
