A crackdown on illegal passenger transportation has been launched in Naples, where local police have targeted unlicensed taxis and chauffeur-driven rentals in areas with high tourist traffic. The operation was conducted by the Territorial Intervention Group, which concentrated its operations between Piazza Garibaldi and the Capodichino Airport area.
The officers, who also appeared in plainclothes, identified four drivers who were carrying out professional passenger transportation activities without the required permits. A phenomenon that, according to a statement, is reportedly on the rise, thanks in part to offers promoted on social media and advertising materials distributed throughout the area.
During the investigations, a total of eleven violations of the Highway Code were reported. These included operating a taxi or chauffeur-driven vehicle without a license, failing to display driving and registration documents, failing to have periodic vehicle inspections, failing to comply with regulations related to previous seizures, and driving in areas subject to environmental restrictions.
All four drivers had their vehicles administratively seized, along with their driving licenses suspended and their registration certificates confiscated. The police announced that checks will continue in the coming weeks, with particular attention to key traffic hubs in the city and tourism-related traffic flows.

The transport situation in Naples is complicated, but I believe it's right to carry out checks. However, the penalties must be fair and not too severe, otherwise we risk penalizing those who work honestly.
