Carabinieri officers intervened at dawn in the heart of the city: the young tourist was shot in the back and his cell phone was stolen. The attacker was arrested after a struggle.

A 24-year-old Spanish man was attacked and robbed in the early hours of the morning along Corso Umberto I, while he was returning home. It was around 4:45 a.m. when a 28-year-old Nigerian man approached him from behind, threatening to kill him and demanding his money.

The robbery and the fight

According to the Carabinieri's reconstruction, the attacker managed to steal the student's smartphone. A struggle ensued, during which the victim attempted to fight back. The scene unfolded before the eyes of a passerby, who attempted to separate the two but was unable to stop the attack.

The intervention of the police

Officers from the Naples Mobile Radio Unit, passing through the area, intervened immediately, arresting the 28-year-old a few meters from the scene of the attack. The young Spaniard, visibly shaken and in tears, had marks on his face consistent with the recent struggle.

The man was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and taken to prison. The victim, treated at the scene, did not suffer serious injuries but was left in shock by what happened in the middle of the night on one of the city's main arteries.
