Naples – A new weather system is preparing to hit Campania. The regional Civil Protection Department has issued a yellow-level weather alert, effective from midnight tonight and for the next 24 hours. The region is expected to experience worsening conditions, with widespread rainfall, strong winds, and rough seas, possibly causing land damage.

The warning calls for scattered rainfall across the entire region, which may develop into showers or isolated thunderstorms, some of which may be moderate, during the first part of the day. Winds will be from the southwest, locally strong, with possible gusts.

Storm surge is another critical factor. Seas will be rough, with possible storm surges along the coastlines most exposed to strong southwesterly winds, posing risks to the coasts.

The Civil Protection Agency lists a series of possible effects resulting from this intense atmospheric phenomenon. Among the main ones:

Flooding and runoff: Possible flooding of basements and ground floors, water flow onto streets, and critical issues with rainwater drainage systems.

Watercourse flooding: Possible sudden rise in river levels, with risk of flooding in surrounding areas, including due to local criticalities.

Hydrogeological instability: Due to waterlogged soil, landslides and rockfalls are possible in several areas of the region, especially in the most vulnerable areas.
Local authorities and the public are urged to exercise extreme caution, pay attention to updates, and follow the instructions of civil protection authorities.
