An execution planned down to the smallest detail, matured within the violent equilibrium of the Castellammare Camorra, and consummated in a matter of moments. The murder of Alfonso Cesarano, 34, believed to be the Di Martino clan's top boss, marked one of the most delicate moments in the recent criminal season in the Lattari Mountains and Castellammare hinterland.

The crime, which occurred in Gragnano on August 29th, was interpreted by investigators from the very first hours as a Camorra-style ambush, part of the internal dynamics of the criminal groups active in the area. According to investigative reconstructions, Cesarano was a key figure in the clan's structure, and his elimination would have served specific strategic purposes.

The planning of the murder

According to the District Anti-Mafia Directorate's indictment, the operation was planned well in advance, through a network of logistical and information support. A key role, according to the charges, was played by the alleged insider, who was responsible for monitoring the victim's movements and providing useful information to the hitmen.

Investigators reconstructed the phases leading up to the ambush through technical activities, investigative findings, and analysis of the suspects' movements, outlining a true operational organization aimed at carrying out the crime.

The Anti-Mafia investigation and the arrests

The DDA's investigations have gradually narrowed the circle around the alleged perpetrators, identifying those believed to be the material perpetrators and the woman accused of providing crucial support to the success of the operation.

At the end of the investigation, the Anti-Mafia magistrates charged the murder with aggravated Camorra methods, believing the crime was instrumental to the dynamics of the criminal organization and the local criminal balance.

Three defendants face immediate trial and the killer repents.

Now comes the turning point in the proceedings. The District Anti-Mafia Directorate has obtained immediate trial against Rita Letizia Maugeri, Salvatore Bifulco, and Aniello Mirante, considered the insider and the two killers involved in the murder, respectively. Mirante, among other things, has been a cooperating witness for several months.

The three will face charges of aggravated mafia-style murder in court. The first hearing has been scheduled for the first half of April, when the trial, intended to shed definitive light on one of the most high-profile ambushes in the Gragnano area in recent years, will officially begin.

This article describes a very serious and complex situation. The investigation appears to be well conducted, but there are still doubts about the actual responsibilities. I hope justice will take its course and that all those implicated will be punished.
