Naples – The Campania Carabinieri Forestry Corps' report is heartbreaking and raises a veil of gratuitous cruelty. Their efforts to combat animal abuse conducted throughout 2025 have brought to light degrading scenarios: from illegal breeding farms to physical torture inflicted for hunting purposes, to the macabre sensationalization of social media.
The poultry concentration camp and the social media case
In Giugliano, military intervention allowed the rescue of 60 parrots. The birds were crowded together in unventilated rooms, immersed in filth so filthy that their survival was seriously compromised. But the cruelty reached disturbing heights with online monitoring: the Carabinieri discovered a video, which went viral on social media, depicting a chicken being mauled alive by two dogs—an act of wanton violence filmed and shared with total disregard for animal life.
Concentration Camps and the Torture of the "Modified Bite"
Moving to the Caserta area, the checks targeted the breed breeding business. A total of 70 dogs were found confined in cramped spaces and in conditions deemed completely unhygienic.
Perhaps the most emblematic episode of this lack of empathy concerns a rescue/hunting dog used for mushroom hunting. The animal was released by the military after being found with a "modified bite": a mechanical device applied to forcibly block the animal's mouth, a veritable physical torture aimed at ensuring absolute control during its activity in the woods.
The emergency numbers: over 120 crimes
The overall data from the operation depicts a growing phenomenon, thanks in part to the increase in reports from citizens. Thanks to collaboration with the veterinary services of the local health authorities, the Carabinieri Forestale (Forestry Police) have recorded record numbers:
87 crimes reported to the Judicial Authority;
27 criminal seizures carried out;
122 administrative offences contested;
Dozens of interventions for abandoned puppies or dogs locked up in unbearable conditions.
Unfortunately, not all rescue efforts arrived in time: the report also mentions the deaths of three dogs, hit by passing cars while wandering unattended. A reminder that neglect is, too often, as lethal as direct violence.
