Benevento– There's a glimmer of hope in the tragic Monday that shocked the Paduli community. The 45-year-old woman, victim of her husband's fury, who opened fire on her this morning with a rifle, has been declared out of danger.
The Vascular Surgery team at the San Pio hospital in Benevento performed what appears to be a small clinical miracle.
The race against time
The woman arrived at the emergency room in critical condition, suffering from massive bleeding in her left arm caused by the buckshot. The severity of the situation was immediately revealed by a CT angiography, which revealed a complex situation: a complete rupture of the artery at the delicate junction between the axillary and humeral segments.
An injury that, without timely intervention, would have inevitably led to the loss of the limb or, worse, death from blood loss.
A bypass to be reborn
Surgeons Davide Razzano, director of the Vascular Surgery Unit, and medical director Antonio De Capua, supported by anesthesiologist Alfonso Ciotta, took to the operating room. The doctors first staunched the bleeding and then proceeded with a complex reconstruction procedure: a vein was taken from the patient's leg to replace 10 centimeters of artery literally pulverized by the bullets.
The medical bulletin
The operation was a complete success. Although the prognosis remains guarded, as is standard practice in these cases, doctors have confirmed that the arm's function has been preserved. While the 45-year-old begins her long journey of physical and psychological recovery, the details of the attack that transformed a February morning into a bloody nightmare in the Sannio area remain unclear.

This is a very sad and sobering event. Domestic violence is unacceptable, and more must be done to protect women. We hope the woman recovers quickly and that justice is served.
