A flower on the grave instead of a cake to share with the family. On his birthday, Gaetano Russo's family is preparing to visit the cemetery to remember him.

The baker, killed on the night between February 2nd and 3rd inside his business in Sarno, died while attempting to defend his daughter from a violent attack. A tragedy that continues to deeply affect his family, still in shock over what happened.

"Gaetano was a good man, a hard worker, a dedicated father. He lived for his family," his wife and daughters recount, visibly moved. Their memory is of a man devoted exclusively to his work and his loved ones, incapable—they emphasize—of harming anyone.

“The lucid and ruthless aggressor”

The women reconstructed the most dramatic moments of the attack, describing it as brutal. According to their accounts, the killer appeared perfectly lucid despite the brutality of the attack.

"Not only did he attack Gaetano with ferocity, but he also threatened us. It was a miracle that we were saved," they explain.

Words that convey the depth of fear experienced that night. "Our father gave his life to protect us," they add, recalling the extreme gesture he made to defend his daughter.

The appeal for justice taken up by politics

The family's outcry was echoed by MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli and Rosario Pugliese, a member of the regional executive of Europa Verde, who met with the family to express their solidarity and sympathy.

"We heard words that no family should ever have to utter," they declared. "Their pain is immense, but so is their pride in a man who demonstrated, right up to the end, what it means to be a father."

“The State guarantees truth and respect”

For political representatives, the baker's death cannot remain merely a private tragedy. "Gaetano Russo died defending his daughter, performing the highest and most humane act possible," they emphasize.

Hence the appeal to the institutions to ensure full justice. "We cannot allow similar incidents to become the norm. The State must be present, protect the victims, and support their families. Their appeal is clear: justice, truth, and respect for the memory of an honest man."

It's sad to hear of such terrible things, especially when a father does everything for his family. Violence should never be a solution, but sadly, it seems to be increasingly common. Justice must be done.
