Nocera Superiore – What was supposed to be a carefree Sunday of celebration turned into moments of pure terror in Nocera Superiore. During the parade of floats, one of the structures struck the railway cables on Via Giacomo Matteotti, sparking a raging fire.
The dynamics of the accident
The wagon was crossing the tracks when, for reasons still under investigation, it severed an overhead power line. The contact unleashed an electrical discharge that immediately caused the structure to burst into flames.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The prompt intervention of the Nocera Inferiore Fire Department allowed the blaze to be extinguished after removing the wagon from the railway track. Carabinieri and railway police officers also responded to the scene, ordering the immediate suspension of rail traffic and the deactivation of the power supply to allow for safety measures.
The Mayor's comment
Mayor Gennaro D'Acunzi has been closely monitoring the situation, releasing an official statement to reassure residents and clarify how the event was handled:
"What happened has understandably caused concern on a day that up until that point had been one of great participation and joy. I want to reiterate that no one was injured and that safety remains our top priority."
The Mayor then underlined that a rigorous investigation will be conducted to evaluate any flaws in the organization:
Technical checks: Investigations into the dynamics have already begun.
Responsibility: The safety measures adopted for the passage of the wagons will be evaluated.
Transparency: The administration is committed to taking any necessary action should critical issues or negligence emerge.
State of the railway line
Train traffic was suspended while surveys were carried out and the damaged cables were repaired. The situation is now under the control of the competent authorities, who will monitor the full restoration of service.
