The Court of Florence has ordered the judicial administration of Piazza Italia after the Prato prosecutor's office discovered alleged cases of exploitation in the supply chain of some of its suppliers. The company, which has 300 stores in Italy and a turnover of €340 million, was accused of "culpably" using suppliers who employed workers on grueling shifts and for paltry wages.

Immediately following the ruling, Piazza Italia issued an official statement clarifying its position. "We fully cooperate with the Florence Court's ruling," reads the statement signed by CEO Luigi Bernardo. "Piazza Italia SpA reaffirms its commitment to combating any form of labor exploitation, phenomena the Company does not tolerate and which are radically incompatible with its values and principles."

The group also confirmed that operations will continue with the current corporate bodies "in compliance with the law and the principles of transparency" and that "control and monitoring measures along the production chain" will be strengthened. Finally, Piazza Italia pledged full confidence in the work of the competent authorities, reiterating its commitment to ensuring accountability and fairness throughout all phases of the production process.
