Pomigliano – Two municipal police officers were attacked with kicks and punches by a 60-year-old man from Pomigliano while they were intervening to foil an attempted car theft. The incident occurred this morning near a hair salon on Via Napoli, where the officers were carrying out traffic control.

The alarm was raised by the car's owner, who let out a loud scream after noticing a man attempting to break into her vehicle. Upon being alerted, the police rushed to the scene and quickly identified the alleged perpetrator, who, upon seeing the patrol, attempted to flee.

Chase and violent fight

After the chase began, the suspect, a 60-year-old resident of Pomigliano d'Arco, resisted the officers. During the struggle, he kicked and punched them, causing injuries that were believed to heal within a day. Despite his injuries, the two officers managed to restrain him until two additional support patrols, activated by the operations center, arrived.

The man was then arrested, taken to the police station, and charged at large with violence, resisting arrest, and insulting a public official, as well as with damage to and attempted theft of the car.

Solidarity from Mayor Raffaele Russo

The Mayor of Pomigliano d'Arco, Raffaele Russo, on behalf of the entire municipal administration, expressed his full solidarity and sympathy to the municipal police, particularly to the two officers injured in the attack. The municipal representative emphasized the importance of the work of the traffic police in ensuring the safety of the city, thanking them for their sense of duty and willingness to serve the citizens.

It's unacceptable that these things happen in Pomigliano. The police do a difficult job and don't deserve to be attacked. We hope there will be more controls to prevent similar incidents in the future and protect citizens.
