Naples. A large-scale joint patrol targeted the eastern suburbs of Naples. The Carabinieri, in a coordinated operation, combed the neighborhoods of Poggioreale, Ponticelli, and Barra in an attempt to stem widespread crime and urban decay.

The balance of the operation

The operation, part of a broader territorial control plan commissioned by the Prefecture, was massive. Eighty-seven people were identified and 41 vehicles inspected. Even commercial businesses were not overlooked: five businesses were put under the investigators' scrutiny.

At the end of the checks, six people were reported at large for crimes ranging from electricity theft to driving without a license (a crime repeated over the two-year period). Six more people were reported to the Prefecture for drug use.

Conocal district, the shadow of drug dealing

Particular attention was paid to the Conocal neighborhood, a historic drug dealing hub in the area. It was precisely in a common area of the park that the officers hit the mark. Cleverly concealed, they found a veritable drug dealing kit: a box containing 35 bullets and a package containing 66 ready-to-sell doses of hashish and marijuana.

Added to this was a block of the same substance, still uncut. The total weight of the seized drugs was 262 grams, a quantity that, once released on the market, would have generated significant profits for local criminals.
