Naples – The extraordinary checks ordered by the Naples Police Headquarters to combat illegal possession of weapons and drug trafficking in the city's most sensitive areas continue unabated.
Homemade hiding place in the building's foyer
Yesterday morning, officers from the Vicaria-Mercato Police Station carried out an inspection on Via Oronzo Costa, a few steps from Porta Capuana.
Inside a specially created compartment cleverly hidden behind an electricity meter in the stairwell of the building, a veritable cache of illicit materials was discovered. The officers seized: a .38 Special revolver pistol, complete with six rounds of the same caliber;
a replica pistol without the mandatory red cap, with a loaded magazine;
additional ammunition: 9 caliber 9mm cartridges and 6 caliber 7.62mm cartridges;
12 packages containing cocaine for a total weight of approximately 1.100 grams (over one kilogram);
a precision scale, a typical tool used for measuring doses.
The gun stolen in Tuscany
Immediate investigations conducted on the revolver allowed us to trace its provenance: the weapon was stolen from a reported theft a few years ago in Castiglion Fiorentino, in the province of Arezzo. All the material was seized and transferred to judicial storage pending further investigation.
The Police Headquarters' strategy against degradation and widespread crime
The operation is part of the extraordinary operations implemented by the Police Headquarters to monitor high-crime areas such as Porta Capuana and the Vicaria-Mercato district, where retail dealing and illegal possession of weapons continue to be a priority for law enforcement. Investigations are continuing to identify those responsible for the warehouse and reconstruct the drug and weapons supply chain.

It's important that the authorities increasingly monitor areas where problems such as drugs and weapons exist. I hope the situation in the city improves, but crime is difficult to stop.
