Salerno – A morning of play turned into a nightmare in Salerno's municipal park, where a two-year-old girl was attacked by a large dog, likely a pit bull. The incident occurred today, Monday, February 16, while the little girl was in the public park on Via Roma with her parents.
The attack in the park
The attack occurred in a matter of moments: the dog mauled the little girl while she was playing peacefully in the park. Her parents immediately raised the alarm, calling for emergency medical services. An ambulance arrived on the scene and transported the little girl to the San Giovanni di Dio e Ruggi d'Aragona Hospital in Salerno, in critical condition.
The condition of the little girl
At the Salerno hospital, the medical team performed all the necessary tests on the child, including a CT scan. Fortunately, the tests ruled out any serious injuries: the little girl suffered scalp injuries that, while requiring appropriate treatment, are not life-threatening. The child is currently hospitalized for observation in the Pediatric Surgery department, where her condition is being monitored closely and is not causing any particular concern.
In parallel with the medical response, municipal police officers have begun an investigation to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the incident. Officers are working in the municipal park to identify the animal responsible for the attack and, more importantly, to locate the dog's owner, who apparently left the scene at the time of the attack. Law enforcement officers are gathering witness statements and reviewing any surveillance camera footage in the area to locate the animal's owner.
