Salerno – A 16-year-old was stabbed in the neck following an argument with a 17-year-old classmate, who was later arrested.

The incident occurred in the Mercatello neighborhood of Salerno, after being released from the Galilei-Di Palo institute. The victim is currently hospitalized in the surgical ward of the Ruggi hospital: his life is reportedly not in danger.

The attack on the way out of school

According to initial reports, the fight broke out as the two students were walking away from the school toward the seafront. At Via Trento, the 17-year-old allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the 16-year-old, causing a deep wound to his neck and jaw.

The injured man's friends accompanied him into the neighborhood to Via Belisario Corenzio, near the Don Milani primary school, where the call to 112 was made.

Rescue and hospitalization at the “Ruggi”

The 16-year-old arrived at the emergency room with a red code. Paramedics contained the bleeding with medications, local anesthesia, and stitches. The blade, it turns out, had grazed delicate vascular structures: a more serious outcome would have been averted by just a few millimeters.

Shortly thereafter, the 17-year-old also arrived at the hospital with a finger wound consistent with an accidental cut during the action. After treatment, he was reportedly quickly removed, partly to avoid contact and tension between family members and groups of friends who had arrived at the "Ruggi" restaurant.

The knife thrown into the manhole and the seizure

Investigators believe that, after the attack, the 17-year-old ran away and threw the weapon down a drain. The knife, described as a large kitchen knife, was recovered and seized.

The investigation: what triggered the violence

The Salerno Police Headquarters' Flying Squad is reconstructing the motive and circumstances, interviewing witnesses, classmates, and people with knowledge of the relationship between the two boys.

The hypothesis is that the gesture matured in a context of already compromised relationships, but the timing and causes of the escalation remain unclear, as well as whether there were previous signs detected by the school or family.

A meeting on school safety and the prevention of violence and bullying is planned at the Prefecture.

This episode is truly worrying. Young people shouldn't resolve arguments this way. It would be important for schools to implement more prevention measures to prevent these things from happening, even if relationships between young people are complicated.
