San Nicola la Strada – A swift intervention by the Carabinieri foiled an aggravated theft at a local supermarket, resulting in the arrest of a 28-year-old Romanian man and his underage accomplice.
On the morning of Sunday, February 1st, shortly after noon, officers from the San Nicola la Strada Carabinieri Station, during a territorial patrol, caught the two perpetrators inside the business. The pair had just stolen non-essential food items, bypassing security systems.
The stolen goods and the details of the robbery
The stolen goods, consisting of six 900-gram jars of spreadable cream, worth over €42, were hidden in the minor's purse. All the items were seized and returned to their rightful owner.
The protagonists and the precedents
Immediate investigations identified the man, a 28-year-old Romanian man already known to law enforcement for similar thefts in other provinces using similar methods. The accomplice, a minor Romanian, has no criminal record.
Precautionary measures
By order of the Judicial Authority, the two were arrested for aggravated theft. The man was held in the Carabinieri holding cells pending a summary hearing, while the girl was taken to the First Reception Center for Minors in Naples. The Carabinieri Station has informed the relevant authorities and the relevant consulate.

It's a strange situation that often happens in supermarkets, but it shouldn't be underestimated. Thefts are a problem for the safety of the community and the Carabinieri are right to intervene immediately. Bravo to them.
