Naples – There is now a file and a confirmed date: the night between February 16th and 17th. The fire that consumed the historic Sannazaro Theater, in the heart of Naples, is now coming to light. The Naples Public Prosecutor's Office has officially opened an investigation, ordering a technical assessment to determine the cause of the disaster that reduced one of the city's cultural temples to ashes.

The current criminal charge is negligent arson, against unknown persons. This is a necessary step to identify and account for the blaze, but also to restore, if possible, a future to a wounded area of the city.

The investigation: experts at work to seek the truth

Deputy Prosecutor Mario Canale and Deputy Prosecutor Antonio Ricci have served the owners of the theater and the affected apartments with a notice of expert assessment. This is a crucial technical step that will now allow the injured parties to appoint their own consultants to actively participate in the investigation. The objective is simple: to determine whether the spark that ignited the Sannazaro was due to negligence, malice, or a tragic accident.

The emergency has ended: Via Chiaia reopens.

While the judicial process is underway, the emergency regarding safety and traffic has been resolved. Firefighters have completed extinguishing operations and secured the area, allowing traffic to resume on Via Chiaia. Business owners in the area have been given permission to return to their premises. However, the Church of Santa Maria della Mercede has not suffered any damage and has reopened its doors.

Anti-looters are being monitored. Law enforcement and local police are remaining on site with 24-hour surveillance to prevent any theft or vandalism in the still off-limits area.

Environment under control: "No risk of dioxins"

In the days immediately following the fire, one of the main concerns for residents was air quality and the potential release of toxic substances. ARPAC, the regional environmental agency, conducted initial monitoring to search for dioxins, furans, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the atmosphere.

The results, released in the past few hours, are reassuring: the sum of the detected concentrations is significantly lower than the reference value commonly used by the scientific community. This bulletin confirms the absence of a pollution-related health alert.
