Sarno – A murderer was 'saved' by police from a lynching attempt after killing Gaetano Russo with ten stab wounds. The scenes, filmed on a cell phone outside the deli on Via Falciani, are making the rounds online.

They film the arrival of a police car and the intervention of a man who turned out to be a plainclothes carabiniere as they ordered Sirica to open the door and leave the shop.

The screams of the family members who had rushed to the shop, the children who were cursing and the police who, after having grabbed Andrea Sirica, 35 years old, with a criminal record for drug crimes, barely had a hard time holding him back and saving him from the kicks and punches of Gaetano Russo's children.

Sirica tries to escape the beatings but also the police who are unable to free the killer from the clutches of his family.

After about three minutes, Sirica was forcibly taken into the police car and taken to the police station.

While the heart-rending screams of Gaetano Russo's children and wife continue, he lies lifeless in a pool of blood behind the counter of his delicatessen-bakery.

According to investigators, Sirica knocked on the shop door around 12:45 a.m. on the night between Monday and Tuesday. Gaetano Russo and his 19-year-old daughter were inside the shop, and the suspect had attacked her. It was while defending the girl that the grocer was attacked by Andrea Sirica, who grabbed a knife from the counter and began stabbing him.

The grocer's young daughter tried to defend her father but was unsuccessful.

At that point the screams, the calls for help and the call to the police at the nearby police station.

When officers arrived on the scene, as seen in the amateur video, Sirica was still barricaded inside.

Two police officers and a plainclothes carabiniere yelled at him to open the door and get out. They kicked in the door and dragged the convicted felon out, who was then attacked by a group of the victim's family members.

When Sirica was already on the ground and handcuffed, the victim's children began hitting him and yelling at him. The moments dragged on for an interminable period until the officers managed to drag the 35-year-old into the car and save him from the attempted lynching.

What happened in Sarno is a very serious matter. Violence is never the solution, although I understand the family's pain. The police were right to intervene, but certain situations are complicated and difficult to manage.
