Naples – Carabinieri from the Bagnoli Company conducted extensive checks in the Fuorigrotta, Soccavo, and Bagnoli neighborhoods. The operation, which involved the use of the Anti-Adulteration Unit (NAS) and canine units, aimed to verify the compliance of businesses and crack down on widespread illegal activities, from illegal gambling to drug dealing. Fifty-four individuals were identified, 27 of whom were already known to law enforcement.

Illegal gambling in the crosshairs

The operation's crowning achievement was the fight against illegal gambling. At a betting shop on Viale Traiano, the military, together with officials from the Customs and Monopolies Agency, discovered a betting system operating through clandestine web circuits and unauthorized platforms.

The legal representative and an employee of the business were reported for illegal intermediation in the collection of bets. In addition to the complaint, receipts and documentation related to the illegal activity were seized.

Frozen food and hygiene: sanctions are triggered

The NAS inspection focused on a commercial premises on Via Carlo Duilio. Inside, the Carabinieri found 15 kilograms of frozen food products with no traceability whatsoever, a serious violation of food safety regulations. This was compounded by numerous hygiene and sanitation deficiencies, which led to the owner being assessed heavy administrative fines.

Young man driving without a license

During the checkpoints, the Carabinieri stopped a Lancia Y driven by a 19-year-old. Further investigation revealed that the young man had never held a driving license. He was charged with driving without a license, resulting in the vehicle being seized.

Weapons and drugs in the condominium on Via Bagnoli

The searches were not limited to public places, but also included the common areas of the buildings. In a building at Via Bagnoli 660, the Carabinieri searched the condominium spaces, where they made a disturbing discovery: a dagger and about ten grams of hashish, divided into doses and ready for retail sale. The drugs and the weapon were seized, and an investigation is ongoing to identify the dealer.

It's interesting to see how the Carabinieri monitor businesses, but in my opinion, there are still many other things that aren't working. Let's hope these controls can truly reduce the city's illegal activities.
