Naples – A veritable sweep, not just to control the area, but to conduct a comprehensive cleanup. This morning, the Secondigliano neighborhood, and specifically Via della Bussola, was the focus of a massive, extraordinary patrol ordered by the Naples Police Headquarters.
The goal: to combat widespread lawlessness, illegal building, and urban decay in one of the city's hottest areas.
An inter-force task force was deployed, bringing together officers from the Secondigliano Police Station, the "Nibbio" squad from the General Prevention Office, the Carabinieri from San Pietro a Patierno, the Naples Local Police (with units specialized in Heritage Protection and vehicle recovery), and even the Fire Brigade and Enel technicians.
A deployment of forces that allowed not only people and vehicles to be scrutinized, but also the regularity of domestic utilities.
Hunt for illegal immigrants and "rigged" utilities
The most striking result of the operation emerged among the public housing buildings. Two people were reported for illegally occupying a public housing unit owned by the Municipality of Naples. Furthermore, they were also charged with unauthorized connections to the electricity and water networks, a phenomenon that often accompanies illegal occupations and poses a danger and harm to the community.
Law enforcement also targeted small-scale contraband trafficking. A man was fined for being caught with 17 packs of foreign cigarettes without the State Monopoly logo.
Motorists in the crosshairs: seizures and removals
Vehicle checks were particularly extensive in a neighborhood where abandoned cars and traffic violations are commonplace. Officers checked 70 vehicles. The most significant figure was the five seizures: cars that were being driven despite having already been stopped by law. A veritable "ghost" on wheels.
But it's the scourge of abandoned cars that accounts for the highest number: 50 vehicles were towed away because they were found abandoned, restoring decorum and public space to the street. Added to these are eight traffic violations reported for various reasons.
The balance: 51 identified
Overall, the operation led to the identification of 51 people, 26 of whom had criminal records. This confirms the high crime rate of the area and the need for a constant and continuous law enforcement presence, such as that deployed this morning by the Police Headquarters.
