It was around 10:10 PM yesterday when the echo of gunfire triggered the alarm on Via Pomintella, one of the main roads connecting the city center with the inland areas of the Vesuvian municipality. On the pavement, at number 143, are the signs of a lightning-fast action that resembles an intimidating raid.
The ambush in the dark
According to an initial reconstruction, still being examined by investigators, unknown individuals reached the area on board a vehicle—presumably a scooter or a large-engined car—and then pointed the gun and fired.
At least two shots were fired, aimed at a target that remains unclear: a home, a business, or simply a signal to anyone who happened to be in the building at the time. After the shot, the men immediately fled into the side streets, taking advantage of the darkness and poor lighting in some parts of the street.
The Carabinieri inspection
The Carabinieri of the local company responded quickly to the scene, alerted by numerous reports to 112 from frightened residents. The officers conducted the necessary technical surveys, cordoning off the area around number 143 to search for spent shell casings and any damage to doors or building facades. No injuries were reported at this time, but the area was patrolled for hours in an attempt to gather evidence that could help identify the attackers.

Investigations are currently underway to clarify the dynamics and, more importantly, the cause of the event. Investigators are not ruling out any possible causes, ranging from an extortion racket to possible friction between local criminal groups for territorial control.
