Naples – The Carabinieri raid began at first light today, dealing a lasting blow to a stolen vehicle laundering organization. Acting on behalf of the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office, officers from the Cercola Station and the Torre del Greco Company executed a house arrest warrant for two men, aged 45 and 31, respectively.
The origin of the investigation
The investigation began in November of last year. It all began with a report of a stolen car, which led the police to almost immediately identify a first suspect intent on physically tampering with the chassis of several vehicles.
Since that first arrest, investigators have unraveled a much larger and more complex web.
A “well-structured” system
The investigation, coordinated by the VII Section of the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office, shed light on a veritable criminal network. These were not isolated incidents, but rather systematic activity: cars were stolen, their identifying features (such as chassis numbers) were altered to make them "clean," and finally, the proceeds were reintroduced into the legal market.
A well-oiled mechanism that, according to the prosecution, allowed the two suspects to fuel an illicit economic cycle starting with road thefts, transforming the stolen goods into ready-to-use capital.

The article describes a major law enforcement operation, but it's strange how such a complex organization could operate for so long without being discovered. The investigation appears to have yielded significant results.
