An attempted scam involving twenty thousand euros was foiled yesterday in Avellino thanks to the timely intervention of the State PoliceThe intended victim was a 96-year-old woman living in the Mazzini district, who had been contacted by phone by a person pretending to be her nephew in financial difficulty. The terrifying story was used to convince the elderly woman to hand over the cash, which was needed "to help her daughter," who lives outside the province.
The agents of the Avellino Police HeadquartersAlerted by the woman's family via 113, they intercepted and detained two men, aged 23 and 37, residents of the province of Naples, near the 96-year-old's home. The two, caught preparing to withdraw the money, were arrested and transferred to prison.
Investigations are continuing to identify the third person involved, the so-called "telephone operator," who contacted the elderly woman to carry out the scam. The incident highlights the police's vigilance and responsiveness, but also the vulnerability of the elderly to sophisticated telephone scams.

It is important that the operation has been stopped but the legal procedure will be long and we must hope that those responsible are judged correctly. However, there are doubts about how the telephone operator managed to obtain the details. The police will have to explain better and the relatives should have been more cautious and informed.
I partially agree, but there are still some questions: who was the operator and why did the call contain details that convinced the woman? Perhaps social protection should have been more vigilant and checked suspicious numbers before the blood tests took place, and the family didn't tell the officers everything, so more information is needed.
It seems to me to be useful news but also bizarre. The police did the right thing, but it seems that the elderly are too vulnerable and the community is not paying enough attention. The details are not explained well and some people do not explain how the two were caught. Perhaps more telephone monitoring was needed and the family did not pay attention, so people need to be informed more.
