Rome – A new allocation of funds is being made to shine a spotlight and strengthen defenses in one of the country's most complex regions. The Ministry of the Interior has approved a €2 million package for municipalities in the so-called "Land of Fires." The funds, drawn from the Single Justice Fund, are aimed at strengthening comprehensive surveillance of areas affected by toxic fires and illegal waste dumping.

The distribution of funds between Naples and Caserta

The resources will not be distributed uniformly, but will follow a precise geographical distribution based on the operational needs of the two provinces involved:

The Naples metropolitan area will receive the largest share, amounting to €1.240.000.

Province of Caserta: to which €760.000 has been allocated.

The goal is to provide local authorities with the financial tools they need to manage an emergency that is both environmental and public order-related.

More agents and electronic "eyes" on the territory

The intervention plan funded by the Ministry of the Interior moves along two parallel tracks: human capital and technology. Specifically, the funds will enable municipalities to:

Hire local police personnel on fixed-term contracts.

Cover the costs of overtime for officers already on duty, ensuring a more consistent presence on the streets.

Install new, state-of-the-art video surveillance systems, which will be directly connected to law enforcement operations rooms for prompt intervention in the event of crime.

A signal against illegality and degradation

In an official statement, the Ministry of the Interior emphasized that this funding represents a further step in a broader strategy to protect the territory.

"This investment demonstrates our ongoing commitment to supporting local authorities and protecting citizens, deploying increasingly effective tools to combat the lawlessness and degradation that have plagued these areas for too long."

With this allocation, the Ministry reaffirms its commitment to not lower its guard, transforming the proceeds from the fight against crime (the Single Justice Fund) into concrete resources for public health and safety.

It's a great step forward for these areas that need help, but I hope the funds are used well and don't end up wasted, as often happens. People deserve safety.
